Baidu is the most popular search engine in China, and it is working on a new image search feature for facial recognition and an early version of the application is available online.
The goal is that users of Baidu will be able to upload an image of a person's face and Baidu will return search results with photos of that very same person, including additional information on the name of the person. Early test reports from the application development of this new search product state that it works well with celebrity photos, but it isn't ready for the everyday Joe or Jane.
Google decided to not pursue launching a public version of face recognition search because of the potential for misuse--specifically that the technology might “cross the line.” Although within Google+, it decided to proceed with facial recognition “Find My Face” system.
