There's a certain kind of humor in Paypal discovering brick and mortar retail. The online payment processing company has set it's sights on offline retail, as it makes a push to become more ubiquitous with consumers.
The company just announced deals with 15 major retailers in the United States that will allow consumers to use Paypal for their purchases. The retailers part of the Paypal deal include Toys R Us, Barnes & Noble and J.C. Penney. Home Depot already offers Paypal as a method of payment in some 2,000 stores. Paypal's agressive expansion also involves a recent connection with point-of-sale (POS) vendor VeriFone. This would mean that Paypal is essentially securing a place in VeriFone's largest retailers POS systems as a payment method.
Now, it is all up to consumers whether or not they will embrace Paypal as an offline option in the way they are a defacto eCommerce option for many customers and websites.
