Free Expression Online, Global Summit Awards
Global Voices, an organization comprised of an international community of bloggers who report on blogs and citizen media, recognized three organizations that are fighting for free expression online from Africa to Asia. This event is the first of a series to be known as "Breaking Borders" awards that will focus on organizations and individuals that were once silenced, make the activities of governments more transparent, and standing up for the rights of dissidents.
The three awards were given to:
- Kubatana.net (advocacy)
- BOSCO - Uganda (technology)
- The Philippines Center for Investigative Journalism (policy)
