According to a new report from market researcher eMarketer, Google and Facebook in combination will represent 15 percent of a total $200 billion spent on media advertising in 2016.
In 2012, Google and Facebook respectively accounted for 9.1 percent and 1.3 percent of ad revenue. This year, those numbers are projected to reach 10.6 percent and 2.7 percent.
Other brands outside of Google and Facebook are included in the projected net digital ad revenue share for 2016, though they represent much smaller numbers than the two former companies:
In a 21 percent increase from last year, Facebook will represent 68 percent of their total ad revenue in 2014. Google will also see a jump from 36.8 percent in 2014 to 65.8 percent in 2016.
Other notable stats from the report include the fact that by the end of this year, consumers will have spent 83 percent more on tablets than they did in 2013, and that mobile ad spending will overtake magazines, newspapers, and radio for the first time ever by the end of this year.
