Political campaign targeting by district in Adwords

Google released a new feature in Adwords to help political campaigns use their PPC ad service. Now Adwords supports targeting by Congressional District, and the tool is open to anyone from political campaign to political humor t-shirt designers or anyone else for that matter.

This opens up huge targeting and messaging opportunities for political parties. It had been previously a big challenge to efficiently manage an ad spend for political campaigns online due to the fact that targeting was based on ZIP code or municipality. Also, district boundaries change every 10 years.

Adwords has been highly effective for national and state-wide campaigns. Now, Congressional races can benefit as well. This will be very helpful for candidates that do not have a large enough budget to advertise on TV.
