Taking a cue from sites like Pinterest and Wanelo, eBay has launched a host of new features including curated collections and the ability to create a profile and follow users.
An exciting new way to get around and definitely rebranding how shoppers engage with the site. No longer just an auction site, eBay is finding ways for sellers to have new storefronts and have a unique brand voice, similar to Etsy. By getting well known names like Pharrell and Kelly Oxford, they're hoping to target a built in fan following as the site heads into the holiday season. The combination of celebrities and collections is what eBay is hoping will bring a new type of shopping experience to the site that can boast hundreds of millions of products at one time.
"We've got 500 million active listings at any given time. It's an amazing amount of inventory, but the fact is you've got to find the stuff you want," said Richelle Parham, eBay's chief marketing officer. "What's phenomenal about eBay is we make those moments of inspiration instantly shoppable."
One snag: when you click on the "Discover the new eBay" it takes you to a "Coming Soon!" page. So if you're looking for a tutorial on how it all works, you might be disappointed. Hopefully they'll have this all sorted out by the holiday season.
