A new French law (‘HADOPI’ "Creation and Internet" law) that requires ISPs to not serve users who have pirated content. The law is very unpopular with anyone outside of the government and entertainment industries.

U2 manager Paul McGuiness stated that the new law was “the right solution to an enormous problem”, as well as “a fair and balanced solution” that “will work in practice.”

The results of a survey of 1004 French internet users showed that 64% were against the law with over 40% strongly against it.
