Apple’s iTunes Store has hit a major milestone, showing just how overwhelmingly dominant of a music and media store on the web it is on the web. Itunes has now sold in excess of 25 billion songs online.
The iTunes library contains about 26 million songs and sells to 119 countries. This true global presence has helped keep competitors like Google Play and Amazon at bay.
“Averaging over 15,000 songs downloaded per minute, the iTunes Store connects music fans with their favorite artists, including global sensations like Adele and Coldplay and new artists like The Lumineers, on a scale we never imagined possible.” Apple SVP Eddy Cue said in a statement.
Apple plans on rewarding the user who downloaded the 25 billionth song with a €10,000 iTunes gift card.
