Civil rights advocates are not thrilled with a new game in the UK that allows regular citizens to become 'super snoopers' and spy on public places looking for crime. The game will award players based on a point system if they catch people committing bad acts. The game is hosted on a website called Internet Eyes and utilizes thousands of CCTV cameras installed across Britain. The 'super snooper' winners will receive cash prizes of £1,000.
The concept is a for-profit, national security system that is completely internet based. Businesses, government agencies and citizens who wish to have the CCTV cameras installed will have to shell out £20 a week for the service. The effort will reduce crime, as large and clearly labeled signs advertise the operation.
