Google just added 13 new languages to voice search. The language expansion required having to collect hundreds of thousands of utterances from volunteers, as well as solve many new engineering problems and challenges with their speech recognition program.
The new languages that were added to voice search were: Basque, Bulgarian, Catalan, European Portuguese, Finnish, Galician, Hungarian, Icelandic, Norwegian, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak and Swedish. The inclusion of these new languages enable 100 million new speakers to use the voice search tool.
Now, Google's voice search and recognition program supports 42 languages.
