Facebook is quickly growing their mobile ad revenues.
The mobile ad industry has been rapidly expanding over the past few years, a trend that parallels consumers' shift to mobile platforms. The industry currently is dominated by Facebook and Google, who claimed 67% of mobile ad revenues in 2013. This represents a significant foothold in a field which is foretasted to expand to $31.5 billion total revenues in 2014.
Facebook has experienced more rapid growth among the two tech giants, whose revenues more than tripled in 2013, moving from 5.4% to 21.7% of total mobile ad revenue. Meanwhile, Google's share of mobile ad revenue decreased from 52.6% to 46.8%, primarily due to Facebook's rapid growth. Twitter came second in 2014 with 2.6% of ad revenue, while Pandora came fourth at 1.7%.
It will be interesting to see how the competition for ad revenue between these two tech giants will unfold. The trend indicates that Facebook has a mobile future, although its growth as a percentage of total mobile ad revenues may slow down after its revenues transition from PC to mobile.
