Blackberry may save service in Saudi Arabia

Research In Motion may be close to a deal with Saudi regulators ensuring that Blackberry users don't lose mobile email service for the device.

Earlier this week, Saudi Arabian Government officials told the three wireless carriers to block BlackBerry service in the country--stating that RIM's security does not adhere to Saudi Arabia's policies.

Excluding some temporary interruptions, so far Blackberry users continue to have mobile email service.

The deal may involve one of two options:

  1. Keep some of the servers within Saudi Arabia
  2. Create a patch that would allow the Saudi Government access to data when needed or desired. The Saudi Government stated that the data would be used only in cases of national security.
