Web designers, say goodbye to Google Base API. As of June first of next year, the Base API will cease to be operational. As a result, the following data types will no longer be supported: jobs, real estate, events, and activities.

In it's place, Google is launching two shopping APIs for accessing product data. The two APIs are:

  • Content API, which allows for adding, deleting, querying or modifying any content item individually
  • Search API, which is a resource for Google Affiliate Network publishers and Google Commerce Search customers

Both of the new APIs us the Gdata protocol, like many of the other Google APIs.

Note: XML or CSV files will be handled still through the Merchant Center.
